Cinnamon + Sugar = Happiness

I saw this on the Joy The Baker Blog earlier this year and of course it looked amazing.

But I had never really done bread before. Let alone bread with sugar and layers.

Happily I made it there in the end.

You can find the recipe here

Combine two cups of flour, salt, yeast and sugar. Set aside.

Whisk together eggs

Melt milk and butter until butter has just melted. Add h20 and vanilla. Stand for a few minutes.

Pour milk mixture into the dry ingredients, mix with spatula.

Add eggs. The remaining 3/4 cup of flour. It will be sticky.

Place dough in a large greased bowl, cover with cling film and a tea towel.

Whisk together sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Brown the butter.

Once dough has doubled in size, knead in 2 tbs of flour into the dough.

Roll dough out to 12x20"

Brush on butter.

Sprinkle all sugar on

Cut into 6 strips

Stack on top of each other, cut the stack into six equal pieces. This was VERY messy and a lot of the sugar came off. But onwards I pressed.

Put into tin, notice I tried to save some of the sugar? At this point I thought I'd wasted my time. Cover for 30-45 minutes.

Bake for 30-35 minutes at 180 degrees.

Serve warm with a cup of tea

This is messy and there are infinity dishes, but trust me it's worth it.

The Simple Things

Today Naz and I have just been chillin'.

Not doing much just enjoying each others company and watching CHOGM intently.

This is seriously one of my favourite things to eat...

Arrowroot biscuits with a LOT scrape of butter.

One of my many true loves, pasta.

It's been a while since I've had pasta, surprisingly as I love it.

So I thought, why not go alllll out and have a creamy pasta!

The food coma has since worn off and I am able to regain enough consciousness to type. I hope.

I found this recipe on Best. Website. For. Recipes.

Chicken, mushroom and avocado fettuccine

I've changed a few things though.

  • We only had sour cream, not pouring cream
  • We only had Dijon mustard, not wholegrain
Ok, now that's all out of the way we can begin ze cooking...

Ingredient roll call

I can see it now

Cook down mushrooms and onions until soft

Meanwhile, boil some water

See? Softer. Ps. Steamy much?

Throw your pasta into the boiling water.

Add in the cream, stock and mustard, bring to the boil and then let it simmer

Ok here, I've put in the pasta and the chicken

Very daintily place in the avocado, this stuff is delicate people! Fold it through ok.

And then the best bit!

Eat it and prepare for your own food coma.

Toy Library

Today I went to The Toy Library. What's a toy library?

Oh so young, so naive!

Kidding, chill. Until yesterday I had never heard of a toy library either.

This is my local Toy Library if you want to check it out or do something similar in your area.

This is part of the baby room, where all the baby toys are kept, I found it very hard to pick!

They have toddler toys, dress ups, little ovens, cars basically any toy you can think off! I got Naz Baby Box No. 6, I thought I'd start off small and then see how we go. Plus the box was huge!

And here's little poo-bum himself in shock and awe of his 'new' toys.

There's a membership fee and then $2-$3 each time you borrow toys. But because Naz is my first baby and I had him this year it was FREE! Does it get better than that??

I think not.

I know there are literally gajillions of amazing food blogs out there, I have a few that inspire me and would like to share them with you.

First cab of the rank is Joythebaker I found her blog about 2 years ago while searching for chocolate chip cookies. Of course I read each and every post! Check it out you'll love it! Beautiful food and photography.

I started noticing links for on her blog and posts about her podcast. For a while I was like whaaaaat a blogger doing a podcast?!?! What about??! I'm not sure about the wire crossing thats going on here?!? Until one day when I downloaded a few of her podcasts.

I fell in love people.

Listened to all the episodes I could (22) while my baby was napping, over the next couple days. It's so funny and relatable and true. How could you not love it?!?!

Joy does the podcast with Tracy!! She has a wonderfully written blog about food and decorating called Her blog is full of photos that really tell a story.

After I heard how much fun these two have blogging and chatting I thought, HEY! I can do this! I WANT to do this (also with some mild pestering from my sister, she has a lovely blog here)

The perfect blend of health and beauty.

Who doesn't like fruit salad?!

So this is where we end up...

Come one, come all!

Today I took my baby Naz to see a friend, so of course we had to come bearing gifts of the sweet kind. I googled some recipes and stumbled upon the words 'cheesecake brownies'. What? My two greatest loves melded together into one super sweet teeth rotter!? This cannot be!

Oh but it issssss

As I was going to a friends I doubled this recipe to keep some at home too. This took a lot of making lists and checking them twice to ensure I had the right amount of ingredients in the right place.

Is there a better sight than chocolate and butter melting together? I think not. Slowly melt over low heat and set aside to cool.

Then we are left with this, obviously it could be game over now and I could drink this. But stoically I will continue on, this is for the greater good!!

Just after the eggs and some of the sugar has been added.

Once the flour and sour cream are in the mix, it's a whole different ball game. This takes it from being a hot chocolate to BROWNIES

Meanwhile, beat together the cream cheese and remaining sugar until smooth.

This is where it starts to get fun!! Get your separate mixtures ready.

Pour chocolate mixture into a lined and greased baking tray, smooth down.

Plop on the cheesecake component. Amazing right?

Smooth it out and using a skewer marble the white into the chocolate.

All cooked, firm to touch and an inserted skewer comes out clean.

Then you have to let it cool in the pan for at least an hour. Pure torture. Tick tock tick tock.

Until you can finally eat it! Trust me it's as delicious as it looks.

Here's the recipe:
